An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More)

South of the Rio Grande, the 1932 Lambert Hillyer south-of-the-border Mexican cowboy western ("Fighting for love and life!"; about a man who seeks to avenge his brother's suicide after a manipulative woman and her accomplice swindle his family!) starring Buck Jones (billed as "Fearless fighting Buck Jones"), Mona Maris, Doris Hill, Philo McCullough, and George J. Lewis. Note that Buck Jones' white horse was named Silver (just like The Lone Ranger's later on!), and Silver made 73 movies with Buck Jones from 1922 until Jones' death in 1942 in the tragic Cocoanut Grove fire. But oddly, Silver was almost never billed on the posters for Buck Jones' movies as so many other famous horses (most especially Tom Mix's Tony) were! Note that many people consider the one-sheet from this movie (with a striking close up image of Buck Jones with a sombrero against a purple background) to be one of the finest cowboy movie posters ever!

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have previously auctioned two half-sheets from this movie (one of each style), and one of those examples has now been reconsigned to us, so this is still only the only example of this style half-sheet we have ever auctioned!

Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards.

Note that while this poster technically COULD be rolled in a tube, the backing is heavy enough that we strongly advise against it. Therefore, we will only send this poster in a very large flat package, unless the new owner insists on a tube, and accepts responsibility for any damage caused by it being rolled. The poster will arrive fine and display great if it is sent in a flat package, but it will cost more to send this way, especially if the poster is being sent outside the U.S., so please only bid on this poster when you take into mind the cost of shipping it in a very large flat package.

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster was folded down the middle. It had pinholes, tears, and paper loss around the edges. It had creases, scuffs, and some stains scattered throughout, including in the stars' faces. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was well backed, but it has had a fair amount of restoration, and you can tell that, especially because the purple area appears to have been repainted, so "even it out". But the poster will still display really well on the new owner's wall, and while one would prefer to find one in better condition, it might be a very long wait (we DID auction this before, but it was this very same poster).
