An Undated (probably 1940s) Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Italian One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27 3/4" x 39 1/4") (Learn More) Phantom of the Opera, the 1943 Arthur Lubin Universal musical horror thriller ("The Screen's Classic of Terror!"; based on the classic novel by Gaston Leroux, and a remake of the silent classic featuring Lon Chaney Sr.) starring Nelson Eddy, Susanna Foster (as Christine), Claude Rains (in the title role as Erique Claudin, the Phantom of the Opera), Edgar Barrier (as Raoul), Leo Carrillo, Jane Farrar, J. Edward Bromberg, Fritz Feld, Hume Cronyn, and "a cast of thousands"! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Carfagni Important Added Info: Note that this Italian one-sheet measures 27 3/4" x 39 1/4" and is linenbacked. Also note that the movie was released in 1943, and surely did not play in Italy until after WWII. I would assume this poster is from the first Italian release. If anyone knows for sure either way, please e-mail me and I will post it here. Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had very minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were well restored, OR it had some minor defects that were not completely restored, and are somewhat noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). The poster had tiny holes at the crossfolds and minor wear along the foldlines. There was the most minor of border wear. The poster was in nice condition prior to linenbacking.
