An Undated (probably 1939) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More)

Randy Rides Alone, the 1934 Harry Fraser cowboy western (from the story by Lindsley Parsons; the movie has Wayne as an undercover investigator sent to find a gang of outlaws, but he goes to a hideout they supposedly were staying in, and he finds many dead bodies, at which point the local sheriff shows up and arrests him for those murders!) starring John Wayne (in the title role as Randy Bowers), Alberta Vaughn, George 'Gabby' Hayes, Yakima Canutt, and Earl Dwire

Important Added Info: Note that all one-sheets from John Wayne movies that were printed in the 1930s can be extremely difficult to date (unless, of course, the poster is actually dated). This is because John Wayne was so popular in the 1930s, that his movies were often re-released, and sometimes the re-release posters contain all new artwork, sometimes the equal of the first release posters. The greatest number of 1930s re-releases occurred in late 1939 after Wayne's great success in "Stagecoach" and "Allegheny Uprising". Warner Brothers re-released his early Vitagraph movies at that time, and Monogram re-released his early Lone Star movies at that time. The Warner Brothers posters say "Star of Stagecoach and Allegheny Uprising", but the Monogram posters are more difficult to date. It is generally believed that the Monogram posters that credit Gabby Hayes on the poster date from around 1939, as he became a well-known star at this time as well. IN ANY EVENT, THESE LATE 1930s RE-RELEASE POSTERS ARE JUST AS RARE AS THE ORIGINALS! In some cases, no one has ever seen even a single example of the "first release" poster. 1930s John Wayne posters are so rare, that one must be willing to accept a re-release, especially if it has striking art!

Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and the restorer did a good job, but you can see signs of the restoration from inches away (since most people look at posters framed on a wall from at least a few feet away, we don't feel this is a defect, but we feel it should be noted). See below for this poster's pre-restoration condition (we are the only major auction company we know of that shares this information with our bidders, but we wish everyone did!).

good to very good. The poster had tears and creases along many foldlines, and some paper loss at the crossfolds. There was a second foldline 1/2" above the regular top and bottom foldlines. The bottom 2" of the right half of the poster was somewhat tattered and there was paper loss in the right end of the bottom border extending into the letters of "Fraser" and the "S" of "HAYES". The person who restored the poster did a pretty nice job restoring the above defects, but you can still somewhat see them from close-up (mostly the restoration at the crossfolds and in the bottom right).
