An Original Vintage Theatrical Deluxe 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Prairie Schooners, the 1940 Sam Nelson cowboy western ("Thundering thrills in the mighty westward trek of land-hungry hombres!") starring William 'Wild Bill Elliott (as Wild Bill Hickok), Evelyn Young, Dub 'Cannonball' Taylor, Kenneth Harlan, Ray Teal, and Jim Thorpe (as Native American Indian Chief Sanche). Note that the world's greatest athlete, Jim Thorpe, was stripped of his Olympic medals and fell on hard times, and appeared in a number of minor movies in the 1930s and 1940s. In this one, he played a Native American chief! Also, note that in 1938, Bill Elliot was cast as the title character in the serial The Great Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok. The serial was such a success, that Elliot portrayed Hickok in 12 other films, and even when he was not playing Hickok, his characters were often called "Wild Bill" (such as Wild Bill Saunders & Wild Bill Boone). Eventually, Elliot became so associated with "Wild Bill", that he was cast as a character named "Wild Bill Elliott" in the 1943 film Calling Wild Bill Elliott. In all, he essentially played a character of himself in over 30 films, often with both his credit and role listed as "Wild Bill Elliott"! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that the movie is called "Into the Crimson West" on the back of this still, which was the working title for this movie!
