Date Sold 4/26/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Folded French Poster (measures 31 1/4" x 47 1/4" [79 x 120 cm]) (Learn More) Alcyon was a French bicycle, automobile and motorcycle manufacturer from 1902 to 1954. Alcyon was started by Edmond Genti and in 1902 they began producing motorcycles, and their first automobiles appeared in 1906 Artist: d' apres Louis Mangin Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been reprinted several times in the past, and this is one of several versions that was likely printed in the 1930s. It reuses the art from the original French poster by Louis Mangin (note the "d'apres Louis Mangin" at left) from the first printing around 1902. Note also that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Please note that this is one of the first 226 items we are currently auctioning in this set of auctions are mostly non-movie posters (and most of them are from countries outside the U.S.). It occurred to us that it makes far more sense to auction these in our auction of "special posters" (which also includes lots of non-movie posters) than in our auctions of "oversized rolled" items that include many U.S. posters (like banners, 40x60s, etc). This item needs to be shipped in a tube over 30" (perhaps much longer). WHILE IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THIS POSTER CAN BE COMBINED WITH THE 773 SPECIAL POSTERS THAT FOLLOWS THE FIRST 226, THERE ARE ALSO MANY CASES WHERE IT CAN NOT BE COMBINED. The main reason for this would be if you buy many of the regular posters and a small number of the very oversized ones. If they were combined, the very oversized one would surely become damaged, so in that case, it would need to go in its own tube, and please bear this in mind before bidding on this very oversized poster. Condition: very good. There are two 2 1/2" vertical tears in the lower edge of the poster and there are some creases, small tears and areas of paper loss in the right blank border. It has darkened slightly with age, but especially given its age, it is otherwise in pretty good condition and if one chose to have it restored it would look great, although I imagine many collectors would be happy with this poster as it is.
