Date Sold 10/11/2015Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Glass Slide (measures 3 1/4" x 4" [8 x 10 cm]) (Learn More) The Price of Silence, the 1916 Joseph De Grasse silent romantic family relationship blackmail melodrama ("Bluebird Photoplays presents the drama of a woman who trusted and the price she paid"; "Supported by the all-star Bluebird cast"; "From the story by W. Carey Wonderly"; about a woman who tells the doctor who delivered her baby boy that it is illegitimate, and she leaves the baby with him, to be raised by his nurse; she then marries a man without telling him about her son, and she has a daughter with that man, and when the daughter is grown, the doctor shows up and threatens to blackmail the mother unless she lets the doctor marry the daughter!; but the daughter elopes with a young man a little older than her, and wouldn't you know it that the man is actually her half brother!; but fortunately, not only does it turn out that the real son died soon after she left him off, and the nurse substituted a different unwanted baby without telling anyone, PLUS the doctor is conveniently killed in a car crash, so everyone's secrets are safe, and the young man and woman are safe to marry!) starring Dorothy Phillips, Lon Chaney Sr. (as the very evil doctor!), Jack Mulhall, Frank Whitson, and Evelyn Selbie. Note that after appearing in dozens of minor film roles in 1913 to 1916, Lon Chaney finally got a few starring roles, and this was one of his earliest "better" roles. It would not be for several more years before he started to get lead roles in crime movies, and of course, it was not until the early 1920s that he became a major horror actor! Important Added Info: Note that glass slides were designed to be put in a special projector that would project the image onto a movie screen (they use exactly the same concept as 35mm slides). This slide is the kind that has two panes of glass that are taped together with black tape around all four edges (front and back), typical of many older glass slides. We have provided a high quality scan of the image, but we have not taken a photo of the slide, because there would really be very little to see! Condition: good. There is deterioration around the edges of the slide, and it affects the top studio logo and the right edge of the image, and the blank borders. Some of the black tape is missing. The rest of the image area is in pretty nice condition. We know that the slide can be restored by an expert, or one could live with these defects, but bear them in mind before placing a bid.
