eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 4p284 CHARLIE CHAN AT TREASURE ISLAND WC '39 Sidney Toler, magician Cesar Romero, ultra rare! Date Sold 2/14/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 17" [36 x 43 cm]) (Learn More) Charlie Chan at Treasure Island, the 1939 Norman Foster Asian detective mystery crime thriller ("Charlie Chan challenges the supernatural at Treasure Island"; "The strange case of murder by magic!"; "Based on the character 'Charlie Chan' created by Earl Derr Biggers"; "Original story and screen play by John Larkin") starring Sidney Toler (in the title role as Charlie Chan), Cesar Romero, Pauline Moore, Victor Sen Yung (as Jimmy Chan; billed simply as "Sen Yung"), Douglas Fowley, June Gale, Douglass Dumbrille, Sally Blane, Billie Seward, Wally Vernon, Donald McBride, and Charles Halton. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! Important Added Info: Note that first release 1939 movie posters from this Charlie Chan movie are incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single poster from this movie until we received this window card! Note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 14" x 17" [36 x 43 cm]. Also note that this window card was never folded. Often window cards would be folded across the middle, because that would make them 11" x 14", and they could then be sent with standard folded posters. Most collectors put an added value on a window card that has never been folded. Condition: good to very good. The window card originally had a blank top that was neatly trimmed off (this was commonly done with window cards, when the top had been left blank, or when someone had hand-scrawled play date information in that area). Most collectors do not consider it to be a significant defect at all, since only blank white paper is lost, and the window card becomes easier to frame. Learn More about condition grades
