An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) The Aviator Traitor, the 1914 Blinkhorn silent World War I (WWI) airplane aviation pilot railroad train crime thriller ("A Sensational Military Drama In Multiple Reels"; "Uncoupling the Traitor's Car"). Note that this movie was a 3-reel short from 1914, and we don't know that it exists, but certainly, it would seem to be one of the earliest airplane movies, and given that it was made in 1914, it might well have dealt with World War I (especially because the title character was a "traitor"). If anyone knows more about this movie or this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: fair. The poster had significant areas of paper loss down the center of the poster (in a strip ranging from 2" to 4" wide. There were water stains scattered in the rest of the image and areas of paper loss in the "TR" of "TRAITOR" in the title and areas of paper loss in the right half of the top two foldlines. The edges of the poster were very tattered with paper loss extending into the edges of the blue border on all four sides. Someone linenbacked this poster many years ago and did a pretty faithful job of re-drawing the missing area in the center of the poster, guessing at the features of the man's face (which were missing). They re-painted the missing parts of the blue border and placed new white paper over the remnants of the original borders. But the restoration was basically amateurish, and if I owned this historic poster (which is quite likely the only existing example!), I would certainly have a talented restorer remove it from the thin linen it is on and have it completely professionally re-backed and re-restored. It would certainly end up having a lot of professional restoration, but it would end up looking great, and I hope it ends up being displayed, perhaps in a museum or archive!
