Date Sold 1/18/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. A REPRODUCTION Poster (measures 30" x 40" [76 x 102 cm]) (Learn More) Dracula (released in the U.S. as "Horror of Dracula" and "Dracula 1958"), the classic 1958 Terence Fisher English Hammer vampire horror thriller ("The chill of the tomb won't leave your blood for hours... After you come face-to-face with Dracula !"; "Who will be his bride tonight?"; "The terrifying lover who died... Yet lived!"; "The chill of the tomb won't leave your blood for hours... after you come face-to-face with Dracula !"; "Don't dare see it... alone!"; "All New! In Brilliant Technicolor!"; "Screenplay by Jimmy Sangster"; "From the novel by Bram Stoker") starring Peter Cushing (as Doctor Van Helsing), Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, Carol Marsh, Christopher Lee (in the title role "as Dracula"), John Van Eyssen, Valerie Gaunt, and Janina Faye. Note that this was the very first of the Hammer Dracula movies! Given how popular they are today, it seems surprising that it took two years to make a sequel (The Brides of Dracula in 1960), and even more surprising that Christopher Lee did not reprise his role (David Peel took over in this one). To be fair, Christopher Lee had played Sherlock Holmes in the interim, and that was probably more interesting to him. Hammer and he didn't return to Dracula until 1966 with Dracula: Prince of Darkness, and there were five more Dracula Hammer movies between 1968 and 1972! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that in 2007 Hammer authorized Posters and Stuff Ltd. to produce 12 reproduction British quad posters featuring the original artwork of each poster. Artist and designer Steve Reed oversaw the production of the posters. They were scanned from an original poster and then any defects were digitally removed by Reed, and then they were printed on high-quality paper to the exact size of a British quad. We are auctioning six of these high-quality reproduction posters in six separate auctions (The Brides of Dracula, Curse of Frankenstein, Horror of Dracula, Evil of Frankenstein, Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed, and Plague of the Zombies), and all but one have a small sticker that was also included with the poster when it was originally purchased! Finally note that while the paper used is high-quality, it is glossy on front and back and the paper cannot be confused with the paper used on an original British Quad poster (and while the image was scanned at a pretty high quality, one can tell that the image itself is clearly "reproduced" from an original poster, but it does make a nice display at a reasonable viewing distance!). Condition: very good to fine. The REPRODUCTION British Quad (see above) is in pretty nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
