An Original Vintage Theatrical Spanish Movie Herald (measures 4 1/6" x 6" [11 x 15 cm]) (Learn More) Aventuras de Cucuruchito y Pinocho (released in the U.S. in 1945 as "Adventures of Cucuruchito and Pinocchio"), the 1943 Carlos Vejar Hijo Mexican children's adventure fantasy musical comedy ("The popular children's characters in a film for all ages") starring Martha Ofelia Galindo (as Princess Cucuruchito), Francisco Jambrina (as Pinocchio) Carlos Amador, Paco Astol, Lucila Bowling, Celina, Alfredo Corcuera, and Pedro Elviro. Note that this is a fascinating movie that is completely forgotten, except by major film buffs. It was made in Mexico in 1943 mostly by Spanish exiles (fleeing from Franco's Spain), but the cameraman Ross Fisher was from Hollywood. Finding detailed information about this movie is difficult, but we found some sources that show that it was definitely a live action movie (the actors who played the lead roles were actual children). Mexican Carlos Toussaint and Spanish exile Vicente Petit shared the production design responsibilities, and there are some images of the sets and costumes on the Internet that show that the movie would be well worth seeing, especially because it was the second Mexican color film ever, and the first fantasy film in color. Unfortunately, Walt Disney apparently sued the makers of this movie (or threatened a lawsuit), due to his version of Pinocchio that had been released three years earlier. The makers of this movie said it was based on children's stories that predated the Disney movie, and we know that the director later went to work for Disney, so that might have been part of a settlement. Apparently, the only existing print of this movie is in a California archive, and getting them to release it would likely take a real life Indiana Jones! The only item from this movie we have ever seen is a single Spanish herald. If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is the only item we have ever seen from this important early color children's fantasy movie! Also note that when Spanish heralds have printing on the back, we picture both sides, but when they are blank on the back, we only picture the front. Condition: good to very good.
