An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 7 3/4" x 11 1/4" [20 x 29 cm]; 18 pages) (Learn More) Bab's Diary, the 1917 J. Searle Dawley silent mistaken identity romantic comedy ("The famous 'Sub-Deb' on the screen at last"; "One of the famous 'Sub-Deb' stories by Mary Roberts Rinehart"; "The Saturday Evening Post stories brought to life"; a very cute story of a teenage girl who comes home from boarding school, and not only does her family treat her like a little girl, but they also are consumed by the plans for her older sister's wedding; so, to get their attention, she takes a picture of a movie star and presents him as her "fiance"; but as luck would have it, her sister's fiance is friends with the movie star, and he gets the star to visit, and present himself as her fiance!) starring Marguerite Clark (in the title role as Bab Archibald), Nigel Barrie, Leone Morgan, Frank Losee, and Isabel O'Madigan. Note that this movie was based on a series of stories by Mary Roberts Rinehart, about the adventures of a teenage girl, and this was the first time one of the stories was made into a movie (and Miss Clark would star in two more entries). Note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that pressbooks in the mid 1910s are incredibly rare. The earliest ones like these measure close to 8 1/2" x 11", with perforated pages, so that theaters could easily remove newspaper ads, and the posters were pictured on an interior page. Not only are pressbooks from this time ultra rare, but finding any uncut is next to impossible! Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: very good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. It has some tiny tears and tiny paper loss around the edges of the cover. Otherwise, it is in pretty nice condition, especially considering it is a century old! Learn More about condition grades
