An Original Vintage Linenbacked Advertising Poster (measures 30 1/2" x 40" [77 x 102 cm]) (Learn More) Jantzen is a brand of swimwear that was established in 1916 and first appeared in the city of Portland, Oregon. The brand features a logo image of a young woman, dressed in a red one-piece swimsuit and bathing hat, assuming a diving posture with outstretched arms and an arched back. Known as the Jantzen "Diving Girl", the image in various forms became famous throughout the world during the early twentieth century. Artist: Pete Hawley Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had two evenly spaced vertical foldlines and three horizontal ones, and there were some tiny scuffs and fine surface paper loss on parts of some foldlines, with a few creases and small tears in the borders. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above, but they are really not very distracting (and a talented restorer could touch them up without re-backing the poster).
