Bluebeard's Eighth Wife, the 1923 Sam Wood silent romantic multiple marriage melodrama ("Screen Version by Sada Cowan"; "From Charlton Andrews' Adaptation of Alfred Savoir's Play"; about an American millionaire who has been married seven times, and, while traveling to Paris, he meets a beautiful aristocratic but poor beauty, and he marries her on the spur of the moment, but when she finds out about all his previous wives, she tries to drive him away because she thinks he will leave anyway, but when he finally does give up hope, she realizes he DID love her and tries to keep him!) starring Gloria Swanson (in the title role as Mona deBriac), Huntley Gordon, Charles Greene, Lianne Salvor, and Paul Weigel. Note that this movie was loosely remade in 1938 by Ernst Lubitsch with Gary Cooper and Claudette Colbert in the lead roles! Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist.

Artist: Tamagno
Important Added Info: Note that this French poster greatly resembles a U.S. insert, both in size and in format. We were not aware that there were ever French movie posters like this until we were consigned this poster and another one from a different silent movie (which we are offering in a separate auction)!

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was folded like a U.S. insert and it had some creases above and below the top and bottom folds. It had tiny pinholes in the corners and small paper loss in the top left blank corner, with some surface paper loss and faint stains in the top blank border. It had a 1" tear near the bottom of the right border, with a pinhole in the center of the bottom blank border. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
