A Paperbacked COUNTERFEIT Jumbo Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) The Jazz Singer, the classic 1927 Alan Crosland musical biography ("Warner Bros. Supreme Triumph"; "Based upon the play by Samson Raphaelson as produced on the spoken stage by Lewis & Gordon and Sam H. Harris") starring Al Jolson (as Jakie Rabinowitz/Jack Robin), May McAvoy, Warner Oland (as Cantor Rabinowitz), Eugenie Besserer (as Sara Rabinowitz, Jolson's mother), Otto Lederer (as Moisha Yudelson), Robert Gordon (as the young Jakie Rabinowitz), Cantor Joseff Rosenblatt (a real life Cantor who was hired to perform the service in the movie), and Myrna Loy (in an early uncredited role!). Note that this movie is justifiably famous as the first "all talking" movie (even though it was only partially a talkie). Al Jolson was well known as "the world's greatest entertainer", and Samson Raphaelson loosely based his source stage play on Jolson's own life, and George Jessel played the lead on Broadway. When Warner Brothers went to make the first "talking picture" (the movie is widely referred to as the "first talking picture", although it was not "all talking"), they felt that "The Jazz Singer" with its music and strong dramatic content would make a perfect choice, but they went with Jolson in the lead role instead of Jessel. Important Added Info: Note that the movie poster hobby was ROCKED down to its core two years ago when it came to light that a dealer and restorer had conspired to create millions of dollars of fakes of classic Universal horror movie posters. But decades ago, the same thing happened with a single poster, which was this Jazz Singer "jumbo window card". A major dealer at that time contacted top collectors and told them that he had found this poster, and he sold them to those collectors for $250 each (a staggering amount for a movie poster at that time!). Over time, it came to light that he had actually created the poster himself (using the classic silhouette image of Jolson from the back cover of the program book, which does not appear on any of the movie posters). It is thought that only around a dozen examples of this fake were created. Around 20 years ago, I attempted to purchase one of the fakes from one of the collectors who had been duped, and he refused, saying that over time he had come to love the poster, even though it was created by a dealer! I have never seen another example of this fake poster until now! What IS paperbacking? Learn More Condition: fair to good. All of the white areas of the poster have darkened unevenly (we don't know if that was because of the type of paper that was used to create this forgery, or if it was that the poster was stained in some way, but we lean more towards the former explanation, because it is solely in the white areas, and not anywhere else). This uneven darkening is quite noticeable, but I think many people could still enjoy this really cool FORGERY (or of course, a restorer could make those areas white). Please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept these defects, and also do not bid on it unless you can accept that it is a forgery from the 1970s (although, to the best of our knowledge, no original jumbo window card exists, so it may well be that this is more of a "faux" poster, although it was fraudulently sold as an original jumbo window card).
