Prodigal Daughters, the 1923 Sam Wood silent New York City Greenwich Village Prohibition romantic love triangle family relationship gambling melodrama ("The Seven Deadly Whims - New lips to kiss, Freedoms from conventions, A new world for women, No more chaperones, Life with a kick in it, The single moral standard, Our own latchkeys"; "From the novel by Joseph Hocking"; a great story of the Roaring Twenties, with two daughters of a wealthy businessman who discover the "jazz life" in Greenwich Village in New York City, and go to live there; one daughter marries a song writer who soon deserts her; the other gets involved with a pilot who works for her father, and also a professional gambler who cheats her out of a lot of money, and then offers to make one last wager, of everything she owes against her agreeing to marry him, and of course she loses!; but the speakeasy they are in is raided by Prohibition agents, and the pilot helps her escape, and she and her sister return home, sadder but wiser, and she intends to settle down with the pilot) starring Gloria Swanson, Ralph Graves, Vera Reynolds, Theodore Roberts, Louise Dresser, and Charles Clary. Note that despite the artificial "happy ending", this movie was an early example of feminist ideals in movies, with women refusing to accept the status quo, and wanting to enjoy the same freedoms that men did at that time. The studio created a great style B one-sheet with a chart showing "The Seven Deadly Whims" (instead of "Sins"), giving a list of what 1923 women wanted most, including their "own latchkeys", and "a new world for women"! Finally, note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist.
