An Original Vintage Unfolded East German Stage Play Poster (measures 26" x 37" [66 x 94 cm]) (Learn More) Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny (literally translates to "Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny"), the 1979 East German stage play opera production (written by Kurt Weill, with the libretto by Bertolt Brecht) which was held at the Komische Oper in Berlin, East Germany. Note that this poster features art by Henning. Bertolt Brecht was a German theatre practitioner, playwright, and poet from the 1920s to 1956. He was the main proponent of the genre named epic theater. During the Nazi period and World War II he lived in exile, first in Scandinavia and then in the United States. Returning to East Berlin after the war, he established the theatre company Berliner Ensemble with his wife and long-time collaborator, actress Helene Weigel.
