An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) 1,000,000 B.C., the 1940 Hal Roach & Hal Roach Jr. science fiction prehistoric caveman dinosaur fantasy romantic adventure thriller ("Actual living animals of a bygone age recreated and filmed by a new secret process!"; "See the most exciting adventure in a million years!"; "What was love like a million years ago?"; "Greatest Thrills on earth... Wonders Never Before Beheld by Man. The Amazing Spectacle of the World at the Dawn of Time!"; "See: Giant Wooly Mammoths Wreak Havoc... Destruction in Mad Stampede"; produced by Hal Roach & D.W. Griffith) starring Victor Mature, Carole Landis (as "Loana, the Golden One"), Lon Chaney Jr., John Hubbard, and Nigel De Brulier. Note that D.W. Griffith was originally supposed to direct this film but passed the reins to Roach and his son. He then worked as a producer but had his named removed due to a disagreement with Roach. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that first release movie paper from this early sci-fi fantasy movie is extremely rare. We have only previously auctioned one example of this first release one-sheet, and it sold for $2,827! The movie was given an early re-release in 1946 (and again in 1952) and both those re-releases have completely different art from that which was used in 1940. By a very lucky coincidence, we were not only consigned this ultra rare 1940 original one-sheet from one consignor, but we were also consigned a 1952 re-release one-sheet from a different consignor, which is being auctioned in a separate auction! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had tears and areas of paper loss in the vertical fold between the middle crossfold and the bottom crossfold, with some to the left and right of the bottom crossfold on the middle fold. It had some paper loss in the center of the top and bottom of the poster. It had some tears and paper loss around the edges, with some smudges and scuffs scattered in the background areas. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. A really talented restorer labored long and hard to repair the above defects. They did not want to "repaint" the poster, so they mostly limited the restoration to the exact areas that needed it. In spite of all of the above, this incredibly rare poster will display well on the new owner's wall, but you can see the restoration when you look closely at it, so bear all of the above in mind and look closely at our super-sized image before bidding on this very rare poster.
