An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French Movie Poster (measures 30" x 42") (Learn More) Bebe Est Au Silence, the 1911 Louis Feuillade silent French family comedy short starring Rene Dary (billed as "Clement Mary"; in the title role as Bebe), and Renee Carl. Note that Louis Feuillade was one of the most important early French directors! He directed Fantomas in 1913 and Les Vampires in 1915, and it is estimated that he directed over 800 movies! More important, he is credited with being the first to direct "thrillers", and it is clear that Alfred Hitchcock, Fritz Lang, and many other directors were students of Feuillade. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this very early French poster (which measures close to a U.S. one-sheet) has really cool border art and design (likely either by a famous French artist, or by someone imitating one of them; note that the girl at top is working an early movie camera!). Also note that this French poster measures 30" x 42" and is linenbacked. Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had very minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were extremely well restored, OR it had some minor defects that were not completely restored, and are somewhat noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). The poster had much wear and some darkening along all foldlines. There were water stains and some small tears around the edges of the poster. The person who backed the poster pretty much just backed it "as is" without performing any restoration. Certainly, any talented restorer could re-back the poster (although I could imagine many collectors displaying this rare historic poster exactly as it is). After re-backing, the poster would look great and it would just require touch up along the foldlines and around the edges of the poster. Learn More about condition grades
