An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Glass Slide (measures 3 1/4" x 4" [8 x 10 cm]) (Learn More)

Mountains of Manhattan, the 1927 James P. Hogan silent New York City boxing sports architecture romantic family relationship orphan Jewish/Irish melodrama ("A drama of love, ambition and inspiration amid the sky line of New York"; "A stellar cast"; "A drama of the world's greatest skyline"; about a young Jewish boy who is adopted by an Irish mother in Manhattan, and he grows up wanting to be an architect, and apparently he must win a prizefight to attain his dream and to win the heart of his girlfriend) starring Dorothy Devore, Charles Delaney, Kate Price, Robert Gordon, and George Chesebro. Note that this movie is somewhat of a mystery. We found one plot summary talking about the "Mountains of Manhattan" (referring to the skyscrapers) and talking about the would-be architect/engineer wanting to build them. Based on that, it sounds extremely similar to Ayn Rand's "The Fountainhead", which would be written just a few years later, and this movie was likely seen by Rand. But in a newspaper ad we saw a reference to the Irish mother adopting a Jewish orphan, which was a cliche plot of this time, and on the U.S. posters, you see the hero and heroine standing on a girder suspended high above Manhattan, but on the Belgian poster, you see a boxing scene, another cliche of movies like this at this time! If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Important Added Info: Note that glass slides were designed to be put in a special projector that would project the image onto a movie screen (they use exactly the same concept as 35mm slides). We have taken a digital photo of each that shows the general condition of the overall slide and holder, and we have also made a digital scan that shows the glass image well, but does not show the holder (except as a dark outline).

Condition: very good to fine.
