Roberta, the 1935 William A. Seiter romantic musical comedy ("Jerome Kern's queen of musical romances brought to the screen in a glorious sunburst of song!"; "A heart-load of maddening beauties in gasping gowns... a fortune in furs... a ransom in jewels... in a song-studded romance of Paris in lovetime!"; "Jerome Kern's amazing musical stage success.. Ten times as tantalizing on the screen!"; "The brilliant hit of the music stage... Ten times as tantalizing on the screen!"; "A heart-load of maddening beauties draped in fashion's most ravishing creations... in a dream-drenched story of love time in Paris... told to the magic melodies of Jerome Kern"; "Jerome Kern's glorious musical romance... screened in a heart-warming sunburst of laughter and song... ten times as tantalizing as the sensational stage success!"; "Tingle to these dream-disturbing tunes"; "from the glorious play 'Roberta'"; "Book and Lyrics by Otto Harbach"; about a former Russian Princess who is now a famous Parisian designer, and her partner dies, leaving her half of the business to an American football player, who comes to help run the business, even though he knows nothing about it; Astaire plays a bandleader, and Rogers plays a fake Polish countess who was once Astaire's girlfriend) starring Irene Dunne ("the golden girl with the silver song"), Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers ("America's Dancing Stars"; "The King and Queen of Dance unite in the Empress of Musical Shows!"), Randolph Scott, Helen Westley (in the title role as Roberta), Victor Varconi, Claire Dodd, "and Hollywood's rarest beauties in Oh!... What gorgeous gowns!". Note that this movie was early enough in Astaire & Rogers careers that they are billed under Irene Dunne! Also note that the parts played by Astaire and Rogers were much smaller in the original Broadway production (Astaire's role was played by Bob Hope!), but their parts were expanded for the movie version, and of course, several musical numbers were added.

Condition: good. This is a most unusual lobby card, restoration wise! It had an area trimmed from the top of the card in an uneven amount, ranging from 1" to 2" across the top of the card (it affected the entire top blank border, and portions of the top background area, but not the figures of the stars or the rest of the card). It also had small areas of paper loss in the bottom corners and an area of paper loss below the "B" of "ROBERTA", with paper loss in the lower right border, extending into the yellow background. There were also some tears around the edges of the card. A REALLY talented restorer attached what was likely pieces of another card to the back of the above areas of paper loss, and then they did a really excellent job of recreating the missing background areas. When you look very closely at them, you can clearly see that they were recreated, but from any reasonable viewing distance, you don't notice it, and the card has not been backed! But please read our description above and look at our super-sized image before placing a bid on this card.
