Date Sold 4/15/2008Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked German Movie Poster (measures 23 1/4" x 32 1/4") (Learn More) Swiss Family Robinson, the 1940 Edward Ludwig shipwrecked stranded-on-a-tropical-island family adventure thriller ("Come Along to Action - Thrills and Excitement on ADVENTURE ISLAND!"; from the book of the same name by Johann David Wyss) starring Thomas Mitchell, Edna Best, Freddie Bartholomew, Terry Kilburn, Tim Holt, and Baby Bobby Quillan. Note that legend has it that when Walt Disney made their live action version of this movie in 1960, they also purchased the rights to this movie from 1940, and then destroyed all known prints, so that their version would not be compared to this! Is this urban legend or partially or completely true? Does that mean this is a "lost" film? If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Heppner Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good to fine. The poster was never folded. It had creases and some tiny tears around the edges of the poster. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed, and looks great!
