eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result f019 CHARLIE CHAN IN HONOLULU movie lobby card '38 Sidney Toler Date Sold 2/7/2006Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) Charlie Chan in Honolulu, the 1938 H. Bruce Humberstone Hawaii Asian detective mystery crime thriller ("Based on the character 'Charlie Chan' created by Earl Derr Biggers") starring Sidney Toler (in the title role as Charlie Chan), Phyllis Brooks, Victor Sen Yung (billed as "Sen Yung"; as Jimmy Chan), Eddie Collins, John 'Dusty' King, Claire Dodd, George Zucco, Robert Barrat, and Marc Lawrence. Note that the fictional Charlie Chan lived in Honolulu, but this was the only one of his many pictures which took place there! Also note that this was the first film (following the death of Warner Oland) in which Sidney Toler played Charlie Chan! Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! Important Added Info: Note that the lobby card offered in this auction is one of eleven different Charlie Chan lobby cards (from eleven different movies!) that we are selling this week on eBay, in eleven separate auctions! Not only does every card feature Chan, but most have close images of him! Best of all, all of the cards are in nice condition (several are near perfect), and none of the cards have the slightest restoration of any kind (not a single piece of tape anywhere on any card)! Condition: very good. The card has several pinholes in each corner and in the center of three borders. There are two tiny pinholes in the center of the image (in Toler's hand) and two diagonal creases in the top right corner. Learn More about condition grades
