GIVE ALUMINUM FOR DEFENSE GIVE ALUMINUM FOR DEFENSE war poster OR search current auctions Auction History Result 7g005 GIVE ALUMINUM FOR DEFENSE hand-created 14x22 WPA WWII war poster 1940s recycle pots for planes Date Sold 6/8/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Unfolded World War II Poster (measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) Give Aluminum for Defense, the 1940s U.S. World War II (WWII) Home Front poster ("N.J. Defense Council Trenton Trust Bldg. Trenton, N.J.") encouraging citizens to recycle aluminum for the war effort (because during World War II, there was a major shortage of aluminum, and kitchenware was recycled into parts for planes!), featuring art of military bomber planes flying out of a kitchen pot! Note that this is a one of a kind poster that was hand-created by a single artist. It has a stamp in the bottom right that reads "MUSEUM EXTENTION PROJECT WORKS ADMINISTRATION NEW JERSEY", and it was surely created by one of the many artists hired by the WPA! That artist might have created multiple posters with the exact same image, but it is also quite possible that this is the only example of this hand-created poster that exists! If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster is printed on a heavier weight paper stock, similar to that of window cards of this time period. It cannot be rolled and sent in a tube, so it will need to be sent in a large flat package.
UPDATED 06/07/2017: Note that we originally had hand-painted in the Auction Title, when hand-created would be more appropriate. This poster was likely silk-screened by hand and not using normal mass printing techniques. Condition: fair to good. The top 4" of the poster has become water stained, which has caused the top layer of the poster to separate from the cardboard backing and to become discolored in that area. Of course, it can be restored, but bear this significant defect in mind before bidding. Learn More about condition grades
