An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Rebel Without a Cause, the classic 1955 Nicholas Ray romantic troubled teen family relationship melodrama ("The reception committee for the new kid on the block!"; "The overnight sensation of 'East of Eden' becomes the star of the year!"; "Warner Brothers put all the force of the screen into a challenging drama of today's juvenile violence!"; "Warner Bros'. challenging drama of today's dammit, juvenile violence!"; "...and they both come from 'good' families"; "Their families gave them everything -but a good example!"; "This is Jim Stark, teenager --from a 'good' family--"; "He was new on the block, the pretty girl belonged to the leader of the gang, and the leader of the gang called him 'chicken' to his face..."; "This is how a teen-war starts!"; "Jim Stark - a kid from a 'good' family - what makes him tick... Like a bomb?") starring James Dean ("The star sensation of 'East of Eden'!"), Natalie Wood (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), Sal Mineo (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Jim Backus, Edward Platt, Dennis Hopper (in a bit part as one of the "goons"), Ann Doran, Corey Allen, William Hopper, Jack Grinnage, Frank Mazzola, and Ian Wolfe NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good. The poster had creases, smudges, tears, and some very tiny areas of paper loss on most foldlines. There was a theater name written on the back of the poster that bled through to the front in the white background area near the middle of the poster (just touching the "t" at the end of "put" after "Warner Bros.", but otherwise solely in the blank white area). There were some smudges and stains in the white background areas and creases, smudges, tears, and tiny areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster. There was a 6" tear that ran from the top right corner of the image across the bricks and into Dean's forehead. There was a 1 1/2" tear in Dean's white shirt. There were some creases and scuffs down Dean's figure and in the background. I believe the person who restored the poster made a very wise decision. They did a lot of inpainting in all of the white background areas and the borders, but did very slight inpainting in the words and the three image areas. This means that the white areas have been "evened out", but the rest of the poster has only slight touch up. You can see signs of the restoration in those areas when you look closely at the poster, but from any distance away, the poster displays well, although you can see slight signs of the image area defects. I think this is a much more preferable form of restoration to the other type, where the image is heavily re-painted, and the poster looks "dipped in paint". You can tell this poster has had restoration, but you don't get a sense of how much at all, and I would think many collectors would be happy to display this great poster on their wall! This poster was linenbacked, and it had significant defects which were only somewhat repaired during the linenbacking process, or were not repaired at all (we describe both the defects as well as the quality of the restoration below, and based on those comments, you can easily determine which type of poster it is). You should also look at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!).
