Date Sold 12/27/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Rex Ingram's Scaramouche, the 1923 Rex Ingram silent French Revolution romantic melodrama ("For love of a woman and to avenge a friend!"; based on the novel "By Rafael Sabatini"; about a young Frenchman whose best friend is killed, and he decides to avenge his death; to discover the details of the killing, he becomes a clown called "Scaramouche"!) starring Ramon Novarro (in the title role as Scaramouche), Alice Terry, Lewis Stone (who plays a different role in the 1952 version of Scaramouche!), Julia Swayne Gordon, and Lloyd Ingraham NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this insert (and that one, like this one, was made by combining more than one poster; see below!) Note that we previously auctioned a different example of this poster that also was made by joining two different posters together and that one auctioned for $200! Condition: good. The person who owned this owned three examples of this poster! Each of them had some defects, and one of them had 3" trimmed from the top, and the other two have different defects. But very fortunately, the three combined had undamaged areas of the entire poster! So the owner came up with an unusual way to deal with this. They trimmed parts of the three posters off (the undamaged parts), and they taped those three sections together from the back! In the case of the top piece, they left some of the undamaged section taped to the back of another undamaged section. But the winner of this auction gets a complete poster that was made up of parts of three posters! All three posters had been folded vertically and had some darkening along the folds but were otherwise in pretty nice condition, especially considering the age of the posters. Someone put tape on the back of the other areas of the separation, but otherwise did no restoration. One could certainly simply display this incredibly rare poster as it is or one might choose to have a professional restorer separate the three posters and then properly paperback them together. This IS a complete poster, although it was made from three different posters as explained above. Learn More about condition grades
