DAYDREAMER ('66) 1sh '66

Lease from Hershenson/Allen Archive

An Original Vintage One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh) (Learn More)

The Daydreamer, the 1966 Jules Bass animated family fairy tale fantasy adventure claymation cartoon ("All New, All Magical Musical Merriment from the greatest of all storytellers Hans Christian Andersen"; "Based on the stories of Hans Christian Andersen"; using a sort of stop-action process with clay or plastic figures, kind of like what was done in King Kong or in Claymation movies) featuring the voices of Tallulah Bankhead ("as the Sea Witch"), Victor Borge ("as First Tailor"), Patty Duke ("as Thumbelina"), Jack Gilford ("as Papa Andersen"), Margaret Hamilton ("as Mrs. Klopplebobbler"), Sessue Hayakawa (who played many Asian villains in silent movies, and decades later triumphantly returned to the screen in "The Bridge Over the River Kwai"; "as The Mole"), Burl Ives ("as Father Neptune"; he was a star football player in high school, and intended to become a football coach, but he didn't complete college, and he had learned the banjo, and he bummed around the country doing odd jobs and street singing in the 1930s!; he became a successful folk singer in the 1940s, and was cast as a singing cowboy in "Smoky" in 1946, billed as "The Singing Troubador", and he alternated between folk singing and acting for the rest of his life; he is likely best remembered for playing the role of "Big Daddy" in the movie version of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof", and for his best supporting Oscar winning role in "The Big Country"), Boris Karloff ("as The Rat"), Hayley Mills ("as The Little Mermaid"), Paul O'Keefe ("as Chris"), Cyril Ritchards ("as The Sandman"), Terry-Thomas ("as Second Tailor"), Ed Wynn ("as The Emperor"), Ray Bolger ("as The Pieman") and Robert Goulet ("sings the title song")
