He acted primarily on the stage but had occasional film roles over many decades, and is widely considered one of the finest Shakespearean actors ever! Some of his movies include: Arthur (winner of the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Romeo & Juliet (1954), Becket (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), and Gandhi. He passed away in 2000 at the age of 96. Important Added Info: Note that this still has been personally autographed (signed) by John Gielgud! The consignor of this autographed item (and a large number of other signed items in this auction) is a longtime autograph collector who does not have a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) for this item, but he feels certain it is genuine. Many of the items he has consigned were purchased from an autograph store that was going out of business when the owner retired, and many of the items he has consigned to this set of auctions come from this purchase.
