An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded French Four-Panel Movie Poster (4p; measures 91 1/2" x 123 3/4" [232 x 314 cm]; printed in 4 pieces) (Learn More) La Brigade Sauvage (released in the U.S. in 1948 as "Savage Brigade"), the 1939 Marcel L'Herbier French World War I (WWI) romantic love triangle melodrama (about a Russian general who is married, but is supposed to be in a duel with an officer whose wife was murdered, but the duel is called off because soldiers are needed for World War I, and then 20 years later, the main characters run into each other again!) starring Vera Korene, Charles Vanel, Roger Duchesne, Lisette Lanvin, Youcca Troubetzkov (billed as "Troubetzkoy"), and Jean Galland. Note that this movie was released in France and other European countries in 1939 and 1940, but was not released in the U.S. until 1948, because of World War II. We have only previously auctioned some Belgian posters from this movie (and NO other movie paper of any kind) until we received this French four-panel, which is a "country of origin" poster for this French movie! Note that this is an extremely rare pre-World War II French poster! Virtually no French posters survive from before, during, or right after World War II (mostly only pre-war heavy stock lobby cards, and even those are rare). Apparently there were many paper shortages in France during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all pre-World War II posters! Also note that this French four-panel was printed in 4 sections designed to overlap, and when combined, the poster measures 91 1/2" x 123 3/4" [232 x 314 cm]. Condition: good to very good.
