An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French Movie Poster (measures 23 1/2" x 31 1/2") (Learn More) Ladies of the Big House, the 1931 Marion Gering romantic love triangle women-in-prison crime murder melodrama ("Life tore them apart on their wedding day!"; about a young woman who finds out her boyfriend is a gangster, and she dumps him and marries a good man, and the gangster kills someone and frames both the woman and her husband, and she is sent to prison and he is sentenced to death, and she tries to find evidence to free them before the execution) starring Sylvia Sidney ("of 'An American Tragedy' fame"), Gene Raymond, Wynne Gibson, Earle Foxe, Rockliffe Fellowes, and Louise Beavers. Note that in movies like this, the "women in prison" almost always are awful and sadistic, and the guards are as well, but in this one movie, this is not at all true, although there is a major plot twist (SPOILER ALERT!) when it turns out that the district attorney is in cahoots with the gangster who framed the couple! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this French poster measures 23 1/2" x 31 1/2" and is linenbacked. Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were extremely well restored, OR it had some very minor defects that were not completely restored, and are somewhat noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). Note that we gave this condition grade to a very few posters that were in pretty good condition prior to linenbacking, but which were not all that well linenbacked, and which could be fairly easily re-backed with only minor additional restoration. The poster had creases and some small tears in the vertical foldline and fine surface paper loss across the horizontal foldline. There were pinholes, smudges, tiny tears, and small paper loss around the edges of the poster. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well. Learn More about condition grades
