Mankiewicz post-World War II (WWII) amnesia romantic crime film noir ("From a story by Marvin Borowsky", which was "adapted" by W. Somerset Maugham and Lee Strasberg, although only Strasberg is credited on the poster, but the final screenplay was credited to director Mankiewicz and Howard Dimsdale; about a veteran who has amnesia, and he has two letters that lead him on a search for a man who stole two million dollars, and eventually, after he gets mixed up in a three year old murder investigation, he finds out who he is) starring John Hodiak, Nancy Guild, Lloyd Nolan, Richard Conte, Josephine Hutchinson, Fritz Kortner, Margo Woode, Sheldon Leonard, and Lou Nova NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been personally autographed (signed) by director Joseph L. Mankiewicz! It was consigned to us from the estate of Robert DePietro, a very longtime collector/dealer who was in the movie business, and he met Mr. Mankiewicz in person in 1988 when they had dinner together, and Bob had the poster inscribed to him by Mr. Mankiewicz (the inscription reads "For Bob, I wish the film were as good as the food. Best to you all, Joseph L. Mankiewicz 1988" What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair. The poster had tears and tiny paper loss scattered on all the folds, with paper loss at the top crossfold in Hodiak's forehead. There was a long tear running into the center of Hodiak's face, and someone put tape on the back of that area, and also on the back of a tear in the left border, and also on the back of separation in the left half of the top horizontal fold, and all that tape bled through to the front. There was also a 12" tear below the world "NIGHT" in the title. There were tape stains in the center of the bottom border. Overall, the poster was in fair condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Certainly, one could have additional restoration performed, either with or without re-backing the poster, but bear this in mind before placing a bid on this poster. Learn More about condition grades
