Date Sold 10/25/2022Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Television Spy, the 1939 Edward Dmytryk science fiction (sci-fi) spy espionage crime thriller ("The thrills of science's newest miracle... packed into the year's most sensational action drama!"; "Paramount's new mile-a-minute, up-to-the-minute thrill-film!"; about a scientist who invents a television device called the Iconoscope, which spies find out about and want to steal it) starring William Henry, Judith Barrett, William Collier Sr., Anthony Quinn and Richard Denning. Note that the six-sheet for this movie has a tagline that refers to television as "science's newest miracle", but we doubt if 1939 scientists could ever have anticipated how much television would eventually become a part of everyday life! This was printed by Associated Displays Corporation which was a company based in New York City. Before it was discovered by noted poster dealer/historian Walter Reuben, collectors did not know the name of this company (and thought it to be located in the Midwest), and it is often referred to as the "other company" (and we will continue to refer to it that way, since collectors know it that way). From 1936 to roughly 1941, this company printed its own one-sheets and lobby card sets (and a very few inserts, half-sheets, three-sheets, 40x60s and stills) for three major studio movies (Warner Brothers, Paramount and United Artists, but no other studios). The items almost always feature a tiny legal disclaimer and cast credits only. The posters and lobby cards are from the original release of the movie, and almost always have completely different artwork from the regular studio release. They did this by combining elements from different film scenes onto one poster or card. Sometimes, "other company" posters have images that are the equal of those from the regular studio release posters. Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: fair to good. There are pinholes, stains, and smudges around the edges, with scuffing scattered in the image. Please look at our super-sized images to get a good sense of the exact condition of this card before placing a bid. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! Learn More about condition grades
