Herbert Brenon's The Case of Sergeant Grischa, the 1930 Herbert Brenon World War I (WWI) romantic prisoner of war spy espionage melodrama ("Herbert Brenon's Different Daring Drama"; "From the novel by Arnold Zweig"; about a Russian soldier in a German World War I prisoner of war camp; he escapes to Poland, but wants to return to Russia, and he does it by assuming the identity of a dead soldier, but it turns out that soldier was a spy, and he is condemned to death!; his wife gets a general to send a telegram to order his execution stayed, but the telegram doesn't make it, and the man goes bravely to his death!) starring Chester Morris (in the title role as Sergeant Grischa Paprotkin), Betty Compson, Jean Hersholt, Alec B. Francis, and Gustav von Seyffertitz. Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist.
NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that very few early 1930s six-sheets survive, likely because the vast majority of them were glued directly onto walls, so they could not be taken down. This is a very rare example of one that did survive, and it is from one of the early RKO movies, and it has wonderful stone litho artwork (and the movie itself is a "lost film")!

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at just a few crossfolds and a very few creases, scuffs, and tiny tears on parts of some foldlines. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well. At some point after it was backed, it came into contact with moisture, but SOLELY down the left edge of the excess linen, and the excess linen is slightly rippled in that edge only, but it does not affect the poster itself.
