An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) This Gun For Hire, the classic 1942 Frank Tuttle spy espionage counterfeiting murder crime film noir ("Killer without a conscience! Lover without a heart?"; "Based on the novel by Graham Greene") starring Veronica Lake (as a magician who does card tricks!), Robert Preston, Laird Cregar, Alan Ladd, Tully Marshall, Mikhail Rasumny, Marc Lawrence, Pamela Blake, Emmett Vogan, and Victor Kilian. Note that Alan Ladd was fourth billed in this movie (he had been in movies for several years, including in Citizen Kane, but he had mostly tiny roles), but this movie made him a major star. It is incredibly fortunate that the U.S. poster artist chose to feature only fourth-billed Ladd and first-billed Lake on the one-sheet, making it one of the most desirable U.S. posters! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Condition: very good to fine. the middle of the left side of the card must have been very lightly water stained at one time, as it is rippled in a semi-circular area in the middle of the left border that extends 3" from the middle left edge of the card; there is the slightest discoloration in that area, but it is really barely noticeable, and it is much more "felt" than seen; there was a pinhole in the extreme right middle of the image area; someone put a piece of tape over the reverse of it but the paper is "scrunched" in that area, so you can see "white" in the hole; there are pinholes in the corners; there are light smudges in all the white areas around the edges of the card. The above defects are truly all minor, and the actual area with the image of the stars is in really nice condition! I would think almost every collector would be very happy to display this great card exactly as is. Of course, any talented restorer could improve on the minor defects, but I really think they are minor enough that most people would choose to leave the card completely unrestored.
