An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Movie Canvas Banner (measures 35 1/2" x 119") (Learn More)

King of the Wild, the 1931 B. Reeves Eason & Richard Thorpe Africa jungle adventure horror serial ("A Mascot Serial"; "An all-talking serial in twelve stirring chapters"; written by Ford Beebe) starring Walter Miller, Nora Lane, Dorothy Christy, Tom Santschi, Boris Karloff, Victor Potel, Carroll Nye, and Arthur McLaglen (as Bimi the Ape Man). Note that this movie was made prior to "Frankenstein", which resulted in Boris Karloff being fifth billed, and he is pictured on very few posters. Had the movie been released a year later, no doubt he would have been top billed! Also, this serial didn't start production with "all-talking" in mind, and some of the actors did not have very good speaking voiced and not much dialog was written. Though no one is actually credited, a great deal of narration was added to the serial in Post Production. It is generally thought that Boris Karloff (who had lots of stage experience) did all the voice-over narration.

Important Added Info: Note that this banner was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube.

Condition: very good. The poster was stored folded for many years and there are many creases and smudges along most of the foldlines (they are much worse when viewed from the back of the poster than from the front). Unlike most of these old canvas banners I have seen, this one is NOT deteriorating along the foldlines, and it has survived surprisingly well, when I compare it to other banners of the same age. There are many creases, scuffs, and smudges throughout, more so along the foldlines and around the edges, but they are truthfully not very noticeable or distracting, and the poster could be displayed and enjoyed just as it is. The poster has not had any restoration of any kind. It has metal "grommets" in the corners. These were put on right after the banners were created, and they allowed the theaters to display these banners while being hung from hooks. Note that it LOOKS like the corners of the poster were cut off, but actually they were just folded over backwards before the grommets were attached (this was standard, and was done to keep the grommets from tearing the canvas). The "missing" corners are on the back of the poster, and if the grommets were removed, the entire poster would be there. The grommets were in all such canvas banners, and are NOT a defect!
