An Original Vintage Unfolded World War II Poster (measures 11" x 15 1/2" [28 x 39 cm]) (Learn More)

Carry Your Share, the 1940s U.S. World War II (WWII) War Bonds poster ("Buy war bonds") encouraging citizens to purchase war bonds, and featuring Joseph Hirsch art of a soldier hoisting a bag (with the artist's name on it) onto the shoulder of another soldier.
Artist: Joseph Hirsch
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this war poster! Also note that this poster (like most World War II posters) were widely distributed through the mail (to military bases and other locations). They were machine folded, and a very few of them have printing on the back of the area that was on the outside when it was fully folded, giving instructions on how the poster was to be used and displayed (see our image of the back of the poster). We don't know if this printing would be on all examples of this poster, or only some of them.

Note that many people, including collectors of World War II posters, are not aware that a large percentage of them were made in a number of sizes. Sometimes there would be a very large size around 40" x 56", but it seems that this was reserved for very special posters. There were ones that measured around one-sheet size (sometimes 28" x 39" or so), and then there were ones that measured 20" x 28" or so. But even advanced collectors often don't know that there were also even smaller versions, one around window card size (14" x 20" or so), and one around 10" x 14"! These smaller sizes are far more rare than the larger ones (we imagine they were only sent to places that had very limited display spaces). We are currently auctioning 32 of the ones that measure around window card size and 24 of the ones that measure around 10" x 14". These were consigned by a very longtime collector who also consigned 23 of the larger sized ones, which we will be auctioning in our Thursday auctions. This is a wonderful opportunity to acquire some of these very rare smaller sized World War II posters! Finally, note that all but three of these posters were printed on thin paper and many were once folded. This means that all but the three (which are on a heavy stock) can be sent rolled with rolled posters, and the formerly folded ones could be re-folded and sent with flat items. This will be the choice of the new owner, and will depend on what other items they bought that these can be combined with. If you win one of these items, please note your preference on how you want them sent when you pay for them.

Condition: good to very good.
