An Original Vintage Autographed Contract (measures 8 1/2" x 11"; 12 pages) (Learn More) Edgar Bergen was an actor and ventriloquist from the 1930s to the 1970s. He is best remembered as the creator of ventriloquist dummy, Charlie McCarthy. Bergen and Charlie were so popular that they appeared regularly on the radio, which does not sound like a possible venue for the duo, but the joy of listening to them was in their personalities much more so than Bergen's skill as a ventriloquist, and in many of their appearances, Charlie McCarthy is treated as a real mischievous human boy, and not a ventriloquist's dummy. Edgar Bergen and Charlie appear most famously in You Can't Cheat an Honest Man, Charlie McCarthy Detective, and Pure Feud. He passed away in 1978 at the age of 75. Important Added Info: Note that this contract has 12 pages and has been personally autographed (signed) by Edgar Bergen on the last page (we have photographed both the first and last pages)! Note that this contract has a great section number five, in which Edgar Bergen insisted on being promised that W.C. Fields must abide by the terms of his contract with Universal and that Universal would have complete control over any changes, rewrites, or revisions, and that "W.C. Fields does not have and will not have any right of control of the cutting or editing thereof". Also note that this item was consigned to us by a man who has been a major movie memorabilia dealer from the 1980s on. During that time, he would regularly purchase collections of movie memorabilia from both dealers and collectors, and in some of those collections he purchased autographed items. Both we and our consignor feel it is quite likely that the autograph on this item is authentic, but he does not have a certificate of authenticity. Condition: very good to fine.
