A Linenbacked French Advertising Poster (measures 23 1/4" x 31" [59 x 79 cm]) (Learn More) Vulcain, the circa 1910s French advertising poster (with a tagline that translates to "With Vulcain cycles, always with a smile on your face") promoting the purchase of Vulcain bicycles by C. Gauthier, and featuring art of a woman effortless riding to Paris while a man on a non-Vulcain bicycle struggles to keep up. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was never folded in the regular way, but it had a horizontal fold 2" from the bottom border. It had horizontal creases across the bottom of the top letters. It had discoloration in the top half of the very center, perhaps a drip stain. It had a 9" horizontal crease in the left border 4" from the bottom of the poster. It had two small tears and two tiny bits of paper loss in the right border. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above.
