An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Straight To Heaven, the 1939 Arthur H. Leonard (billed as "Arthur A. Leonard") black African American New York City Harlem crime gangster romantic melodrama ("With all-colored cast"; about a black singer whose father is a chemist, and his father discovers that gangsters are forcing Harlem shop owners to sell expired canned goods, and the father tries to investigate and the gangsters frame him for murder, so his son gets involved, working for the mob undercover, and he there is a pretty young woman who gets involved too!) starring Nina Mae McKinney, Jack Carter, Jackie Ward ("The colored Bobby Breen"), Pearl Bains, and James Baskett. Note that Jackie Ward was a young black singer who played the son in this movie. They made him a singer, so that he could perform two songs, including the title song. We don't know what happened to him, but this was his only movie appearance. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Finally, note that this is one of the few late 1930s or early 1940s all-black movies that did not get re-released in the 1940s or 1950s. First release movie paper is beyond rare! We have only ever auctioned single one-sheet from it and nothing else. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that movie paper from this film is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single movie paper item from this movie until we were consigned this one-sheet (which is the one referred to in the description above)! Obviously one would much prefer to find an example of this poster in much better condition, but we have waited over 30 years to get this (or any paper from this movie), so it might be a very long wait, and of course this poster can be restored. Condition: fair. The poster has paper loss in the bottom right corner and small paper loss in parts of the rest of the borders. It also is very fragile and separating on the folds. Obviously it could be restored but bear its condition in mind before bidding in this extremely rare poster. Learn More about condition grades
