An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22") (Learn More) Red Dust, the classic 1932 Victor Fleming pre-Code romantic love triangle melodrama (set on a rubber plantation in Indochina, with Gable forced to choose between "good" Mary Astor, and "bad" Jean Harlow, who was basically a prostitute) starring Clark Gable, Jean Harlow, Gene Raymond, Mary Astor, Donald Crisp, and Tully Marshall. This was a pre-Code movie, and the steamy scenes between the stars helped bring about the Code (and the censorship it brought). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Ted 'Vincentini' Ireland Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Condition: good to very good. The card was folded across the middle and there were creases along that fold. There were pinholes, creases, smudges, and tiny tears around the edges of the card. There was a pinhole in the top of the "T" of "DUST" and many faint smudges and scuffs scattered through the image. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was well backed, and the restorer chose to do a "minimal" restoration, to avoid the poster having a "heavily restored" look. I think this worked quite well, because you can see signs of the defects and the restoration of the defects from close up, but from any reasonable viewing distance, they are not very noticeable or distracting at all.
