An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) The Avenging Rider, the 1928 Wallace Fox silent romantic inheritance cowboy western (based on the story by Adele Buffington; about a cowboy who inherits a ranch, but he discovers that he has only inherited half of it and that the other half was inherited by a pretty woman from the east, who looks down on all cowboys, and at first, they can't stand each other, but they find out the owner who left them the ranch had been murdered, and together they find the killer and fall in love!) starring Tom Tyler, Frankie Darro, Florence Allen, Al Ferguson, Bob Fleming, and Arthur Thalasso. Note that Frankie Darro was born in Chicago in 1917. His parents were circus aerialists and young Frankie started in 1924 as a 7 year-old child actor, and was immediately in much demand. After 13 movies, he was paired with Tom Tyler in "Let's Go Gallagher", and they were soon a regular team, appearing in 23 movies over the next 4 years. In his first appearances with Tyler, he was simply one of Tyler's "Pals", but over time, as his popularity rose, his billing became "Tom Tyler and Frankie Darro & His Pals", and finally he received single billing under Tyler's credit. Unlike most child stars of the time, his career was not derailed by his entering adolescence (likely because of his small size even as an adult and perennial youthful appearance). Darro was an expert horseman, and he had to do his own stunts in most of his western roles, simply because there were no stunt doubles his size! One of his best roles was in the leading role in William Wellman's ultra-depressing Wild Boys Of The Road in 1933, a movie that dealt with the growing real-life problem in The Great Depression of homeless kids roaming loose in America. The movie is well directed and well worth checking out. After he was full grown (his adult height was 5' 3"), Darro continued to play minor roles (often portraying the leading man as a teen in the opening of the movie), over the next 12 years. He served in World War II, and then returned to movies, appearing in a total of 173 movies, last acting in 1975, the year before he passed away. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that by this time, Frankie Darro was receiving almost equal billing to Tom Tyler, and yet oddly, the poster artist for this poster decided not to picture Darro at all, to instead show star Florence Allen in a very sexy bathing suit (sexy for 1928!). This is likely one of the few Tom Tyler posters from this era that does NOT have an image of Tyler with his boy pals! Condition: very good to fine. The poster had very tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and very minor fold wear. There were two tears near the middle of the right border, in the blank border, with a 6" tear in between them, but that tear only extends into the blue background. There were some pinholes around the edges of the poster. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was really expertly backed, and looks incredible!
