An Original Vintage Folded Special Movie Poster (measures 51" x 78" [130 x 198 cm]) (Learn More)

Jerry's Mother-In-Law, the 1913 James Young silent family relationship mother-in-law slapstick comedy short (a pretty crazy comedy about a man who goes to a costume ball after his mother-in-law comes to visit, and he buys a suit of armor from shady people to wear to the ball, and he gets drunk and goes back home, and the mother-in-law thinks there is just a suit of armor laying on the bed, and she calls the police, and the armor was stolen from the museum, and the police come and take it with the sleeping man in it, and he is put on display in the museum, and that is just the beginning of this wild farce!) starring Sidney Drew (in the title role as Jerry Brown), Clara Kimball Young, Kate Price, L. Rogers Lytton, and James Young. Note that Sidney Drew was the brother of famed stage actor John Drew Jr., who never made any movies, and he was the uncle of John, Lionel, and Ethel Barrymore. The Barrymore siblings were told by their grandmother that he was adopted, but they felt that was not a true story, due to a great family resemblance. He started in movies around 1913, when he appeared in a number of "Jerry" comedies (about a man and his relatives), and he made a large number of movies until his passing in 1919, and once he was married, he often appeared with his wife as "Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Drew". After his first wife died in 1914, he quickly married again, this time to a woman less than half his age, named Lucille McVey. She quickly used her husband's connections to start producing, directing, and starring in comedy shorts, billed as "Mrs. Sidney Drew" (which the first Mrs. Drew had also been billed as). Sidney Drew passed away in 1919, and Mrs. Drew passed away six years later.

Artist: Harry Bedos
Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single movie paper item from this movie until we received this poster! Not only that, but it is the only poster from any of the "Jerry" movies in this series that we have ever auctioned.

Note that this is a VERY unusual poster from the early 1910s! In the earliest days of movie distribution, the studios (especially The Vitagraph Company) temporarily hit on the idea of creating one poster for use in several European countries, and to make that work, they put the title of the movie in three different languages at the top of the poster! The languages are Italian, German, and French. This is a rare opportunity to purchase an extremely early movie poster! THERE IS SOMETHING EVEN MORE UNUSUAL ABOUT THIS POSTER! The previous ones like this that we have auctioned from other movies have all been approximately Italian one-panel size (39" x 55"), but THIS one is approximately Italian two-panel size, and yet it seems to have all been printed on a single sheet. This, and one other poster we are currently auctioning, "Whimsical Threads of Destiny", are the only two larger sized posters that we have ever auctioned to this point!

Condition: fair. The poster is extremely fragile and is separating on most of the folds, where there is also darkening, small tears, and tiny paper loss, and in the borders as well. The poster is mostly "all there", and after linenbacking by a talented professional, the poster will display well, but bear in mind its considerable defects and the cost of restoration before bidding.
