An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie 7 3/4" x 11 1/4" [20 x 29 cm] Key Book Still (Learn More) Water Bugs, the 1931 Florida swimming sports short featuring Johnny Weissmuller, Stubby Kruger (competition swimmer who later worked in Hollywood as an actor and stunt double!), and narrated by Grantland Rice. This 9-minute short was one of two similar shorts made by RKO in 1931, before Weissmuller's big break came when he starred in Tarzan the Ape Man the following year. In this short and the other one (called "The Big Splash"), Weissmuller demonstrated his incredible swimming and diving ability, while Stubby Kruger provided comic relief, doing painful belly flops! Advertising material of any kind from either movie is beyond rare! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this short is incredibly rare. We have never previously auctioned anything from this movie until we received this key book still! Also note that this still is a key book still, mounted to a linen backing. Many studios spent extra money to have their most special photos, the key book stills, either backed with linen or printed on a heavy paper, both of which enhanced their durability. They had an extra 1" at the left or top, with punch holes, because of how they were stored. Key book stills are far more rare than regular stills, which has increased their popularity among collectors, since only a few keybooks were manufactured per film, and a key book still is guaranteed to be authentic.
