An Undated (probably 1960s) Re-Release Theatrical Folded French One-Panel "Grande" Movie Poster (1p; measures 47 1/4" x 63" [120 x 160 cm]) (Learn More) L'eternel Retour (released in the U.S. in 1948 as "The Eternal Return"), the 1943 Jean Delannoy French romantic melodrama ("scenario" and "dialogue" by Jean Cocteau; about a handsome young man with a rich uncle and a cousin who is a dwarf, whose mother is the sister-in-law of the rich man and they both want his money, and there is also a beautiful blonde girl that the handsome man becomes involved with, and it is possible that they are long separated brother and sister; it is a modern day retelling of the "Tristan and Isolde" legend) starring Madeleine Sologne, Jean Marais, Jean Murat, Junie Astor, and Roland Toutain. Note that this is a fascinating movie! It was made in France during World War II when it was occupied by Nazi Germany, and there are those who see this as a pro-German movie, with its beautiful blonde lovers (very Aryan in appearance), and an evil dwarf, but there are also subtle anti-Nazi messages embedded in it as well. Many consider this one of Cocteau's best movies (he solely wrote it and did not direct it). First release posters from it are extremely rare, not surprising, since it was made in France during World War II when there were huge paper shortages! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" poster for this French movie! Condition: good to very good.
