An Original Vintage Magazine (measures 5 1/2" x 7 1/2" [14 x 19 cm]) (Learn More)

The Commentator, the general interest magazine (similar to Life Magazine, but digest sized) published in the 1930s (at least). The contributing editor was H.V. Kaltenborn, the editor was Lowell Thomas, and the advising editor was John B. Kennedy. The only issue we have ever auctioned is the October 1938 issue, which has a great artwork cover of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse by Stephen Grout, and it includes an interior story "What Has Disney Got That We Haven't?", and it says "Big shots in Hollywood are deeply concerned about one Mickey Mouse and the rest of the Disney menagerie", because Snow White had just come out to great success, and the other studios were all wondering why their cartoons weren't doing nearly as well as any of Disney's. The article is seven pages long, with four black and white illustrations of Mickey Mouse. Other articles include "Profit of Television" by Lowell Thomas, where Thomas quotes a man who says that "It may be a long time coming, but this new dimension in radio is bound to bring tremendous changes". If anyone knows more about this cool magazine, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
Artist: Stephen Grout
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned ANY issues of this magazine (this is the one mentioned in the description above)!

Note that we have provided a picture of the front cover of the magazine, and pictures of interior two-page spreads (including the table of contents page if there is one; but we didn't make much effort to find the best ones!). These images should greatly help you judge the overall condition of the magazine, and the contents page lets you know exactly what articles and stories are contained in this particular issue. Please know that these magazines are sealed in bags and are ready for shipping, and we cannot answer any questions about them or look through them for you, so please bid (or do not bid) based on the images we have provided.

Condition: good to very good. Note that we have attempted to check to see if the magazine is complete and uncut, and we believe that it is. However, there is a slight possibility that we might have missed a small cut or a page that was neatly removed, and if that happens, you can return the magazine. We have solely provided an overall description of the condition of the magazine, but you can also refer to our super-sized images. Please bid (or not bid) based on that overall grade and by viewing the super-sized images.
