Important Added Info: Note 2001: A Space Odyssey opened in 70mm in 1968 in a roadshow release. In 1969 it went into wide release in 35mm, and the movie was not as successful. The film was then given an entirely new 70mm New York City ad campaign in March 1970. That proved successful and the movie received a national release in 1970 (part of the continuous first release since 1968), and the one-sheet for this release shows the star child (but it has less color than the "wildposting" one-sheet used in New York). However, after being out of the theaters briefly, the movie was re-released in 1971, and this 1971 re-release one-sheet has the same image as the March 1970 wilding poster, and like it, the coloring is part purple and part a blue-green, making the poster much more effective. Also, we are currently auctioning a 1970 star child one-sheet from the continuous first release of this movie, in a separate auction, but that 1970 one-sheet does NOT have the additional coloring that this one does. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had creases and scuffs along parts of the folds. It was used in New Zealand, and a New Zealand rating snipe was glued over the original rating in the lower right. It had yellow in the top right blank corner that appears to be a printing defect. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
