Date Sold 7/20/2014Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Japanese "B2" Movie Poster (measures 20" x 28 1/2" [51 x 72 cm]) (Learn More) Miyamoto Musashi (released in English-speaking countries as "Samurai I: Musashi Miyamoto"), the 1954 Hiroshi Inagaki Japanese biographical martial arts samurai action adventure melodrama (this movie and its two sequels were all based on a single novel by Eiji Yoshikawa; it was made into three movies, like Kill Bill!; unlike Mifune's Kurosawa samurai movies, this trilogy was filmed in color, and there are many very complex secondary characters in all three parts; the movies can stand alone, but they are best watched back to back!) starring Toshiro Mifune, Mariko Okada, Rentaro Mikuni, Kuroemon Onoe, and Kaoru Yachigusa. Note that Toshiro Mifune made this movie immediately after "Shichinin no samurai" (Seven Samurai) in the same year. In this movie, he played a samurai named Musashi Miyamoto, who was a well known samurai character in Japanese movies who had already been portrayed in eleven different Japanese movies going back to 1929! After this movie, Mifune appeared as the same character in two sequels in 1955 and 1956, and then the character was played by other actors in 23 more movies and TV shows until 2006. This movie is not well known in the U.S. (although it did have a U.S. release), and we would think it is extremely likely that first release Japanese posters from it are incredibly rare! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" poster for this Japanese movie! Note that this poster is fragile (see the condition description below), and it will be sent folded in a standard size flat package. We would not want to roll it for fear of causing more separation (see below). Condition: good to very good. The poster was folded once in each direction and there is tiny paper loss at the crossfold, and some tiny tears on parts of both foldlines. There is a diagonal crease across the top of the poster extending from near the middle to the right edge, and that paper is almost separated from the rest of the poster. There are some tiny tears around the edges, with paper loss in the center of the top border and in the top left corner. The poster certainly has clear defects, but it is also true that it is mostly "all there", and after linenbacking by a top professional, it will look incredible, and it really will not require all that much paint restoration.
