A Vintage Three Volume Set of Hardcover Books in their Slipcase (measures 9 1/4" x 12 1/4" [23 x 31 cm]; 823 pages total) (Learn More)

Edgar Rice Burroughs Library of Illustration, the 1976 Limited Centennial Edition (published by Russ Cochran on Edgar Rice Burroughs' 101st birthday) three volume book set (with slipcase) featuring images and information about the artwork used for Burroughs' creations, including: Tarzan, the Barsoom series (aka: Of Mars series), Pellucidar series, Venus series and more. Artists included: J. Allen St. John, Harold Foster, John Coleman Burroughs, Frank Frazetta, and many more. This is one of the most elaborate publishing projects ever undertaken by Russ Cochran, who was well known for going "above and beyond" in his coffee table books. This was originally conceived as a three volume set, each volume to be published in 1976, 1977, and 1978. However, Mr. Cochran ran into problems in acquiring the rights to publish the Frank Frazetta Doubleday paperback book covers in the third volume, and after he published the first two volumes, he decided to "hold off" on the third volume until he could acquire those rights (which he thought he could surely do, since he was close personal friends with Mr. Frazetta). But in 1984, when he still had not been able to finalize a deal (despite his and Mr. Frazetta's best efforts), he published the third volume with only a limited amount of Frazetta images, so those who bought the three volume set in advance in 1976 finally got their third volume eight years later!

Important Added Info: Note that this set of limited edition hardcover books has been hand-numbered 107/2000! Also note that we have pictured the slipcase, the front cover of each volume, the title pages, and the interior pages that shows the publishing information, and several interior 2-page spreads from each of the three volumes. We wish we could picture many more, because this is a really amazing three volume set, which must be seen in person to be appreciated!

Note: We have 24 images of the books in this set, but due to a space limitation, only TEN of the 24 images are displayed above. However, there is a "supersize" link to the right of those images that lets you see the other 14.

Condition: fine. The slipcase and the interior volumes are in wonderful condition. It was purchased by our consignor from Mr. Cochran in 1976 (and it was delivered in 1984, as noted above!), and it was stored carefully ever since.
