An Original Vintage Folded World War II Over-The-Wire Poster (measures 11" x 18" [28 x 46 cm]) (Learn More) Share and Play Square, the 1944 U.S. World War II (WWII) Home Front poster ("Keep the home front pledge"; "Pay your points in full. Pay no more than ceiling prices"; "Produce and conserve"; "Food fights for freedom") encouraging citizens to use ration points when buying rationed food and to comply with food conservation and price control programs. Note that this poster features an outline of a woman taking a pledge. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this war poster! Note that this poster is called an "over-the-wire banner". That means that it has a fold down the middle and then it has an image on the top and bottom. If you open up the poster, the images look upside-down to each other. That is because it was intended that you would drape this poster over a string or a wire and then hang it in the center of a room, so that people could see one image approaching the banner and then the other image from the other side. You rarely see posters like this anymore, but they were once quite common. Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Note that many people, including collectors of World War II posters, are not aware that a large percentage of them were made in a number of sizes. Sometimes there would be a very large size around 40" x 56", but it seems that this was reserved for very special posters. There were ones that measured around one-sheet size (sometimes 28" x 39" or so), and then there were ones that measured 20" x 28" or so. But even advanced collectors often don't know that there were also even smaller versions, one around window card size (14" x 20" or so), and one around 10" x 14"! These smaller sizes are far more rare than the larger ones (we imagine they were only sent to places that had very limited display spaces). We are currently auctioning 32 of the ones that measure around window card size and 24 of the ones that measure around 10" x 14". These were consigned by a very longtime collector who also consigned 23 of the larger sized ones, which we will be auctioning in our Thursday auctions. This is a wonderful opportunity to acquire some of these very rare smaller sized World War II posters! Finally, note that all but three of these posters were printed on thin paper and many were once folded. This means that all but the three (which are on a heavy stock) can be sent rolled with rolled posters, and the formerly folded ones could be re-folded and sent with flat items. This will be the choice of the new owner, and will depend on what other items they bought that these can be combined with. If you win one of these items, please note your preference on how you want them sent when you pay for them. Condition: very good. Learn More about condition grades
