Date Sold 8/3/2021Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Melody Master Bands, the 1932 Vitaphone musical short subject ("Saturday night swing club") series that featured music from Clyde McCoy, Larry Clinton, Dave Apollon, Jimmy Dorsey, Clyde Lucas, Rubinoff, and Dona Drake (billed as "Rita Rio"). Apparently, this series began in 1932, and Vitaphone made a stock one-sheet that year. They apparently made a completely different stock one-sheet every other year until at least 1948! The ones we have seen are from 1932, 1936, 1940, and 1948 (so we know the series ran for at least those years!). If anyone knows more about this series, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that this is a "stock" poster created by Vitaphone for use for all entries of their "Melody Master Bands" series. Theaters would order this poster, which had a blank area at the bottom. They would be sent a series of large paper snipes with the titles of specific entries of the series, and they could paste in each snipe as needed, thus getting many posters for the price of one. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: When we previously auctioned a poster very similar to this (see below), it did not have a snipe, and it had the large area for the snipe in the lower right. This poster comes together with a loose snipe for the Rita Rio short subject (see our image), that was intended to be glued to the blank area at lower right (and the new owner could frame this poster with that snipe in that area, either with or without completely attaching it). Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this one-sheet, and that was 12 years ago! Actually, that was not another example of this exact poster, because the earlier one had the short name "Rita Rio" at bottom left, and this one has it at middle right. The two posters each have a litho number, and they are exactly one number apart, so it seems that they made two versions of this poster at the same time (no doubt one was a "correction" for the other). Condition: very good. The poster has tiny separation and tiny paper loss at the bottom two crossfolds. It has tiny pinholes in the corners and a few tiny bits of paper loss in the middle of the left blank border. The snipe has a pinhole in each corner and it was folded. Otherwise, both the poster and the snipe are in nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
