Best Man Wins, the 1948 John Sturges romantic love triangle family relationship gambling frog jumping melodrama ("A story only Mark Twain could tell!"; "Mark Twain's loveable rogue who would a-wandering and a-wooing go!"; "Based on the Mark Twain story 'The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County'") starring Edgar Buchanan, Anna Lee, Robert Shayne, Gary Gray, and Hobart Cavanaugh. Note that Columbia bought the rights to this classic Mark Twain story, but then basically threw away the story as a minor incident within a typical love triangle melodrama! To make matters worse, they hired excellent director John Sturges, who could do little with the material!
